Our
mission is to serve and represent our Members and enhance the residential
rental industry throughout British Columbia.
Beginning
in 1971 and continuing today, Rental Owners and Managers Society
of British Columbia continually strives to meet our industry's ever
changing needs and demands. Whether it is answering a Member's question
or making submissions to government, all our activities focus on
one objective: helping Members succeed.
Advice: Help is as close as your phone. Competent, experienced
staff can answer your questions or provide assistance to help you
solve problems. Free consultation with the Association's lawyer
is also available to support the staff and Chief Executive Officer's
expertise.
Credit Checks: Some of the most important information about
potential tenants relates to their credit record and payment history.
As a licensed credit reporting agency, our Association conducts
credit checks for its members at nominal cost, a service which is
unavailable to individual owners or managers.
Forms:
The law requires that tenancy agreements be in writing, but the
government doesn't provide a form which both satisfies its requirements
and protects the interests of landlords. Only our Standard Tenancy
Agreement does. Our many other forms, all written by landlords for
landlords, meet current legal requirements and are updated frequently.
Top Storey: A subscription to our bi-monthly news magazine
is included with your membership. Each issue contains a wide variety
of advice, trends and reports of members' experiences, as well as
information on changes in legislation or regulations, legal advice,
updates of member services and a directory of Associate Members.
Top Storey is also a valuable information source for resident managers.
Cost Savings: Doing business with Associate Members means
significant cost savings to you. From paint to plumbing, batteries
to bookkeeping, you can more than offset the cost of your dues from
the discounts offered by our Associate Members.
Fuel Contracts: Members save several cents per litre on heating
oil for their homes and businesses, as well as savings on business
and personal gasoline purchases.
Residential Rental Insurance Program: Available only to Members,
this program is custom designed for residential landlords, covering
items such as trashed suites, extended vacancies, bylaw upgrades
and rental income loss. Because of the general reputation of our
members and the size of our Association, this expanded coverage
is offered at rates significantly below standard residential insurance
premiums.
Trade Show: Open only to our Members and their managers,
our annual Trade Show, rated Victoria's largest locally based show,
features exhibits by our Associate Members, mini-seminars and many
prize draws throughout the afternoon.
Dinner Meetings: Our Annual General Meeting and Trade Show
dinners feature guest speakers and provide opportunities to meet
and network with Members.
Education: To help our Members improve their professional
and managerial skills, the Association conducts industry related
and general interest seminars and discussions throughout the year.
Legislation Changes: Members are advised, either directly
or through Top Storey, of any changes in municipal, provincial or
federal laws, regulations or policies that impact the residential
rental industry.
Representation to Governments: The Association is a member of the Canadian Federation of
Apartment Associations. Through the Association's Chief Executive
Officer and these organizations, the interests and concerns of the
residential rental industry are presented to the media, and all
levels of government. |
